Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
According to VAC, PTSD is one of the most commonly diagnosed service-related injuries. PTSD is a mental health condition that develops after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It can significantly affect emotional health, cognitive function, and overall quality of life, but with the right care, recovery is possible.
What is PTSD?
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a condition that arises from exposure to traumatic events such as combat, accidents, or life-threatening situations. It alters how the brain processes memories and emotions, often causing a heightened stress response to everyday experiences.
Symptoms of PTSD
PTSD manifests in various ways, including:
- Intrusive symptoms: Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive thoughts about the trauma.
- Avoidance behaviors: Avoiding reminders of the traumatic event, whether places, conversations, or people.
- Changes in mood or cognition: Emotional numbness, feelings of guilt or blame, difficulty concentrating, or memory problems.
- Heightened arousal: Irritability, difficulty sleeping, or an exaggerated startle response.
These symptoms can be persistent and interfere with daily life, relationships, and mental well-being.
How Does PTSD Occur?”
PTSD develops as a response to overwhelming stress or trauma. Common service-related causes of PTSD include threat to life, loss of others, and seeing the wounded and dying. While not everyone exposed to trauma will develop PTSD, factors such as the severity of the trauma, prior mental health conditions, and the availability of support systems can influence its onset. Over time, untreated PTSD can intensify, making early intervention critical.

Erectile Dysfunction and PTSD
It’s more common than you think. We have found there is a very high correlation between psychological factors such as PTSD, anxiety and depression and ED.
Many of our patients are approved for shockwave therapy for ED as a consequential condition to their previously diagnosed psychological factors and without any prior ED diagnoses.
